Lifelong breakfast and dinner spot for me. 12/10 recommend! Service is usually good, and is quick to help you out. Ambiance is that of an old tavern, which is what this place is. An old, good time tavern that overall is family friendly.
Friday night, a little busy but service was still great. Kelli was our server and took great care of us. Tea was brewed. Food came out steaming hot and fresh, I had the Philly beef sandwich which was perfectly seasoned and potato wedges which tasted super fresh. Husband had the rhonda melt and fries which looked good too! Kids Mac & Cheese was delicious (who doesn't try their kids food, come on) I didn't get the salad bar but kind of regretted it as it looked really clean and had a lot of options including soup. Pies in pie case looked great too, just too full as my sandwich was pretty big.
We love finding good local places on road trips. This one is fantastic. Good diner and comfort food. Super friendly staff. It's 6 miles off the highway and definitely worth the short drive. Pretty unassuming on the outside. Don't let that scare you if you want a burger loaded with pulled pork and bacon or all the fried chicken you can eat.
The online rating system of restaurants has served us well on our recent road trip. We chose the Lantern Family Pub in Ashley, Illinois because it was more highly rated than many of the other selections in the area. It is most likely not a place we would have chosen based on its exterior appearance. We were glad we stopped here. A large spacious area with a wide range of atmospheres within the same building. There is actually gambling and a full bar in part of the space - and the other part features many tables and booths for family-style eating. My companion had and adored the fried fish platter - said it was one of his top versions of that dish - and I had the daily special - a Philly style hamburger that included chopped savory meat and grilled onions - which was terrific. It was served on an absolutely delicious and perfectly grilled roll.The place is clean and the staff is friendly - our server could not have been nicer. Great pick!
Very family-friendly. I've been going there ever since I was a little kid and everyone has always been so nice to me and my family. Their fried chicken is the best, and their pie is to die for.
